Most of us pause from time to time to ask ourselves WHAT IS REAL?

I sometimes pinch myself when I awake just to confirm that I am really here in a human body. I have been with this body for more than sixty years and it hardly seems real that I have been here this long and that everything is still working as well as when I was just a teenager. I also wonder about the information I receive in newspapers and on television. Can it really be true in the 21 century that ISIS is beheading people in what they feel is justifiable retaliation against American airstrikes against them? Can it really be true that more than a billion people on our planet go to bed hungry or not knowing where their next meal will come from while more than one thousand individuals are mega billionaires with more wealth than they could spend in a million lifetimes?

I love sports as much as anyone but is it really true that the world spends more time, energy and money attending, promoting, marketing and discussing sports events in a day than all the time, energy and money devoted to the arts in a year? Can it really be true that millions of people follow the activities of major celebrities ranging from Lady Gaga to Honey Booboo while too many individuals feel so alone, isolated and unimportant that they seek to appease their suffering with random acts of violence directed at the anonymous society that they feel has betrayed them?

And then there is the realm of faith and healing. Is it really true that faith healing can work? Is it true that healers such as Dr. and Master Sha can perform miracles and have for hundreds of thousands of people? We are living in such a strange world and that makes us question our own existence and the evidence of actual miracles. Perhaps more to the point in this day and age of technological miracles: What constitutes a true miracle? What is believable and what is not?

In this weekly blog I will be reporting on events that I have observed with my own eyes. Some of these events have forced me to redefine my own sense of what is real and what is not. I am fascinated by not just major miracles but small everyday miracles as well. In my research for writing Dr. and Master Sha: Miracle Soul Healer I have explored events which would not have seemed real to me even a year ago. Dr. Sha is presenting examples of how his calligraphy can heal. This seems unreal to me but I question my own skepticism after personally reviewing dozens of examples of true healing which have occurred many of which (several thousand at last report) have been posted on

In working with Dr. Sha I have been introduced to Dr. Rulin Xiu, a string theorist who has been working on unified field theory off and on for the past twenty years. I am learning from Dr. Rulin that nothing we take for granted is truly real. Our bodies are actually mostly non-bodies containing 90 percent space. Dr. Rulin has explained that our perception of solid matter, even objects of iron and steel is actually an illusion. These and other themes will be the primary focus of this blog and perhaps with each blog entry we will be better able to determine what is actually real.

And to learn more about what Dr and Master Sha is up to now I encourage everyone to attend the international peace day celebration with Dr and Master Sha on September 21st.  More details here: Shot 2014-09-10 at 4.59.11 AMPeaceDay_MSha_851x315

Year-end holidays are a time for reflection. Where have we been? Where are we going?url

We can take this time to reflect on personal achievements and goals or to reflect on universal achievements and goals. I choose to reflect upon both.

2013 has been a very good year for me personally. My book, The Power of Twelve, was published with good reviews. Our literary agency enjoyed many successes, ranging from Soul Healing Miracles by Dr. Sha to What God Said by Neale Donald Walsch, to The Crash of 2016 by Thom Hartmann, and countless other well-received best sellers. Our online course representation grew dramatically, and even our fledging Waterfront Digital Press enjoyed a number of notable successes. My family is intact and healthy. My son’s first year of marriage has created an even greater bond between him and his wife Natasha. My daughter is now engaged to her long term boyfriend, Oia.  And my relationship with Gayle is stronger than ever. Yes, it has been a very good year for me personally. (more…)

The Business of Business

Wednesday, November 13th, 2013

Thirty years ago when I was senior editor for Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Publishing, I acquired and edited a manuscript Osaka_Business_Park_01from a popular business consultant who titled his successful book The Business of Business is Business. At the time Milton Friedman’s book, Free to Choose, was the number one selling title not just for Harcourt but the number one selling title in America.  It was not just number one for business books, but number one for all titles published that year in general non-fiction.

Both Free to Choose and The Business of Business is Business were written by intelligent men who believed that the least amount of government interference was the ideal. Let businesses focus on making the highest possible profits for their shareholders and all will be well. There might be short term inequities with certain segments of any population suffering economically, but in the long run the market will straighten out the inequities and all will return to balance and society will thrive.

I am in favor of neither entitlements nor the welfare state, but over the last thirty years it seems obvious that world economic patterns and priorities have changed. If we continue to subscribe to the belief that the business of business is only business, our world economy is likely to crumble. I do not go into details in my novel, The Power of Twelve, but I do posit in the novel that a small group of mega wealthy individuals and multinational corporations are controlling the majority of wealth and resources on our planet at this time. Gita Morena and The Wisdom of Oz

Friday, August 30th, 2013

L. Frank Baum the  author of The Wonderful Wizard of  Oz is one of my favorite writers of all time. I  was pleased when hisGita's Oz Photo 3 great granddaughter Gita Morena asked me to represent her book The Wisdom of  Oz.  Like her famous great grandfather Gita writes to bring joy into the world.

1. What got me started with writing and what did it take for me to become a writer?

I started writing when I was a child. It was a way to express myself without judgment, and gave me a sense of clarity and connection internally. People seemed to enjoy what I had written, and that encouraged me to continue sharing my thoughts.

When I discovered that L. Frank Baum was my great grandfather, I understood why writing felt so natural to me. With a good grounding in punctuation and sentence structure from my early education, writing and editing come fairly easily to me. I still remember the creative writing exercises we were given in high school, and the teacher who insisted on full attention and involvement.

What did…or does it take for me to become a writer? Just the commitment to do it and the courage to let myself be seen!

2. Why do I write?

I write to discover what I am thinking and to find the threads of thought that weave the tapestry of my inner world.

Writing allows me to explore the fuzzy, intangible mixture of feelings/reactions/thoughts that swim in the deep crevices of my mind, and it gives me a way to manifest these ideas in a visible form. Exploring the frontier of these inner edges and communicating with others from this place brings a deep sense of satisfaction and connection with others.  (more…)

When I Woke Up This Morning

Wednesday, August 14th, 2013

I have always enjoyed a song  made popular by the WE FIVE whose opening  line — When I woke up this morning, you wefivewere on my mind— has often characterized my world. Of course in the song the You is a woman and the theme is the relationship between the singer and the woman. Other lines include—we got trouble, ooh, ooh, we got wounds to bind,  I got to walk away my blues — and in the end the vocalist (could be a man or woman actually though, as a man,  I always look at it from  the perspective of a man) concludes it is time to walk away from  YOU.

In my case I woke up this morning with a tooth ache. I am actually in the best place I have ever been in terms of a relationship with a woman. Gayle and I have been together for nine years and every day I enjoy being with her more and more.  Anyway, back to the toothache.  I definitely have a wound to bind and want to walk away from it. I used some peroxide in the morning and the toothache seems to be abating. Good thing. (more…)
